How ForgeRival works: format, scoring and entry

ForgeRival is an India-based team robowar (robot-combat) and engineering competition. Teams of 2–5 design and build their own 9 kg combat robot, record the engineering behind it, share the build on social media and compete in the arena for a ₹50,000 winner’s prize. Here is how the competition is planned to work.

How a ForgeRival team is scored

Every team is scored in three parts. Robot combat carries most of the weight, but the engineering behind the robot and the way a team shares its build count too.

Robot combat 80%

Build it. Drive it. Prove it in the arena. Robot combat — robowar — is the heart of ForgeRival and makes up 80% of a team’s score. Control and strategy in the arena both matter.

Engineering portfolio 10%

Show the decisions and testing behind your machine. Your portfolio tells the story the finished robot cannot tell on its own: the sketches, models, design choices, iterations and test findings that shaped it. The format and submission guidance will be published before submissions are requested.

Social media awareness 10%

Share your build and bring people into your team’s story. Teams earn this part of the score by documenting and sharing their journey with an audience. Assessment and submission details will be published with the social media guidance.

The robots: a 9 kg weight class

ForgeRival robots compete in a 9 kg weight class. Teams design and build their own machines; ForgeRival does not supply a robot kit. The technical regulations — robot specifications, permitted weapons and systems, safety requirements and inspection — are being finalised and will be published before team registration opens, together with the competition regulations covering match format, judging and conduct.

See the arena handbook for each document’s publication status.

Teams and entry fees

Each team has 2–5 members, including one team leader. Members can bring different strengths: design, fabrication, electronics, programming, documentation and presentation all contribute to a team’s work. Entry is ₹2,000 per member, with the leader paying the same as everyone else. Payments are not open yet.

ForgeRival entry fee by team size
Team sizeEntry fee
2 members₹4,000
3 members₹6,000
4 members₹8,000
5 members₹10,000

From idea to arena

Every team follows the same arc, from first idea to the arena. This describes the intended experience, not a confirmed event timetable or running order.

  1. Develop the idea

Choose what you want to build and explore how it could work. Compare approaches before committing to a design.

  2. Build and improve

Turn the design into a machine. Test it, identify weaknesses and record the changes you make.

  3. Document the work

Keep a clear record of the development: sketches, models, design decisions, iterations and test findings. These are examples of useful evidence, not a final submission checklist.

  4. Share and compete

Share your team’s story, submit your portfolio and put your machine to the test.
